Amplifying Voices

Do you wonder how to make your voice heard in the Agile community, especially as a member of an underrepresented group? As an ally, are you blocked not knowing how to support those folks in getting their voices out? Do you wonder if there is really a need for groups like Women in Agile?

In this highly interactive talk, we will co-create an individualized action plan for each person in the room. We will examine such topics as authenticity, implicit bias, the role of an ally, power positions. We will also talk about some of the areas that are ripe with issues – such as Interviews (e.g. “culture fit” dangers), promotions, postings. We will review some of the most current research to support the “why” this is an important topic – and organization. 

Jenny Tarwater is the International Program Director for the Launching New Voices (LNV) Program for the non-profit Women in Agile.She has been working for the last four years to establish and grow LNV to provide resources, mentors and opportunities for underrepresented genders that have a desire to bring their stories to conference stages.  Starting with just 3 new voices at The Agile Alliance four years ago, LNV has now created opportunities for over 30 individuals to share their passions and ideas at conferences around the world.
 
When not working with Women in Agile, Jenny is a Collaboration Coach working with Agile Teams. She has over twenty-five years experience in the software development industry, working with companies in telecommunications, financial services, energy management and publishing.  She is also a co-founder of Lean Agile KC, Agilehood KC and KC Agile Game Night.  Jenny is passionate about helping individuals collaborate and enabling a diverse set of voices and ideas to be heard.
